La hyperactivity It is a very common problem among dogs, even more so if we consider that all puppies have an overflowing energy. In most cases the situation changes when they become adults, but sometimes the anxiety to play, walk or bite takes over the character of the animal. These can be signs of hyperactivity, something we can control through training techniques and other tricks.
Recognizing canine hyperactivity is not always easy, since the dog is a very active animal by nature. However, we must begin to worry when we observe symptom as the following:
1. Barking constantly. Whether it is to attract attention, order food or play, barking or crying uncontrollably implies an alarming state of mind. It is one of the first signs associated with this disorder.
2. Disobey orders. A hyperactive dog is unable to concentrate, and therefore, to attend to our commands. He would be easily confused, reacting nervously and with difficulty to each of our indications.
3. Lack of control in games. These excessive nerves may cause the animal not to calculate its strength when playing, and may, for example, bite us too hard.
4. Insomnia. It is one of the classic symptoms of hyperactivity, both in dogs and humans. So is light sleep, to the point where any slightest noise can wake the animal up.
5. Eliminate at home. His poor ability to concentrate and his excessive nerves can lead the dog to relieve himself anywhere, either outside or inside the house.
If we observe these signs, it is best that we go to a veterinarian or an expert in canine behavior to diagnose or rule out hyperactivity. Sometimes medication is necessary, only in extreme cases, since many times we can control the problem with natural methods, such as abundant physical exercise or some training techniques.
For example, Agility is perfect for nervous dogs, as it helps them increase their concentration and balance their energy. It will also be very useful to us practice obedience commands daily and reward their attention with positive reinforcement. And of course, we will need a lot of patience, which over time will surely pay off.
